Last night, the Town of Wales Board reprimanded Mike Zywar, the town's Highway Superintendent. for confiscating records of his own cell phone calls made while on the job and destroying them. Under investigation for misuse of government property, the town board made a public announcement of its decision.. It is rumored that Zywar has over 4,500 documented text messages from one month alone...It makes you wonder where he found the time to run the highway department.
Zywar is running for re-election this year against Dani Bond. Bond has been endorsed by the Democratic, Conservative and Independent parties. She is pledging to bring integrity and professionalism back to the Wales highway department. In other news, Democratic Erie County Sheriff candidate Dick Dobson has been endorsed by Carpenter's Local 276 whose leadership told him, “It is clear that you will be the best representative of the men and women of Carpenter's Local 276.” Finally, a source close to Erie County Democratic headquarters has told us: “It is unlikely that Lynn Szalkowski will be our candidate for county comptroller. But we will have another qualified candidate waiting in the wings who can take her place.” Reportedly, Szalkowski is withdrawing her name for health reasons. Meanwhile, party dissidents and others are still waiting for endorsement meetings to be scheduled in certain county legislative districts where headquarters backed candidates are not likely to be supported by local committee members. |
