State Senate 60th District To Make Primary Choices A brief explanation of this Thursday’s Primary The voters in the New York State Senate 60th District have more choices than anyone anywhere else in the State! It involves 8 candidates, 5 political parties and 3 primaries. The 5 parties are; the Democrats, Republican, Conservative, Independence and Working Families. The 3 primaries are; the Democrats, Republicans and Independence. The 8 candidates include Democrats Al Coppola, Chuck Swanick, and MIke Amodeo. Republicans Kevin Stocker and Mark Grisanti, Independence Party favorite Marie C. Clark and Working Families Party Gregory Davis. Republicans can choose between freshman State Senator Mark Grisanti and former Town of Tonawanda Prosecutor Kevin Stocker. Their primary has become a never ending mud slinging festival. If you are a republican in the district you have received several mailers in which Stocker claims “Grisanti lacks integrity and cannot be trusted under any circumstance” and mailers in which Grisanti claims “Stocker is dishonest, misleading and untruthful.” And those are some of the milder claims.
In the Democratic Primary the decision might be based on geography. Chuck Swanick has previously been elected to represent Grand Island and Tonawanda in the County Legislature and Al Coppola was previously the State Senator for the 60th district and has always carried Grand Island and North Buffalo in State Senate races. Both gentlemen are very well known and very well liked. All of the candidates agree on the threat of hydrofracking in the southern tier and are against dumping the waste water into the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. In the Independence Primary, Marie C. Clark has the support of the local Independence Party. According to the major political consultants in the district “When it comes down to it, party bosses don’t have any real power, it’s only your vote that counts and elections are the only polls that matter. Each of these 8 candidates have shown gumshen and deserve consideration for your vote. You get to decide who wins and who loses. And either way, you always get exactly what you deserve!”
