A Friend Of The Family Farmer For NYS Assembly
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

CHRISTINA ABT: EXCITED TO BE THAT “SYMBOL OF TRUST”

As Assembly candidate Christina Abt looks forward to her big star studded “Music To Our Ears” fundraiser TONIGHT!!!! Thursday, at the Sportsman's Tavern, 326 Amherst St., Buffalo 5;30-7:30PM, she is also looking forward to continuing a campaign that is based on visiting the voters of her far flung district where they live. Especially, its drought stricken farmers.

“Agriculture is not only very important to our economy, but without it, we don't have an adequate food supply,” she points out. “So when farmers are hurting, we are all hurting. And right now they are due to this terrible drought. We need to help them with low interest loans that will see them through this crisis. The smaller the farm, the more help is needed because our smaller family farmers don't have as much of a financial cushion to fall back on as the larger ones do.”

“But, we need to help them, not only with government programs but in other ways,” she continues. “For example, one company in New England is adding five cents to the price of all of their products and giving those funds to the farmers.”

As someone whose mother's family comes from the world of agriculture, Christina has been around farmers since her earliest days. But, she is also interested in the plight of union workers, though she is not taking union endorsements.

“I have told the unions that I do not want their endorsements,” she notes. “What I want to do is talk with them and find out what their needs are and how I can help them.”

More than anything, Christina wants to be the candidate of hope for her district.

“I know that people have been looking for a candidate they can trust for a long, long time,” she acknowledges. “I am very excited to be that person. I am very excited that, as I travel throughout the district, people see me as that candidate who is running to get the job done for them, not for politics., whether they are Republicans or Democrats. It's a great honor and a great responsibility. But, I know I can continue to be that symbol of trust that our people want and need.”
