Coffey's Reform Agenda Backed By Lundine
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor
EX. LT. GOV. STAN LUNDINE ENDORSES COFFEY FOR AG

Cites Coffey’s experience, vision of reform in Albany and commitment to Upstate voters
in supporting his candidacy for Attorney General

Former Lieutenant Governor and Congressman Stan Lundine endorsed reformer Sean Coffey for Attorney General today, saying his record as a prosecutor and commitment to fighting corruption made him the ideal person to represent Upstate’s interests as New York’s head lawyer.

Lundine said, “I am proud to endorse Sean Coffey for Attorney General. Sean's broad legal experience perfectly matches the portfolio of the Attorney General's office. He is the only candidate in this race who has been a prosecutor, a defense lawyer and whose courtroom skills won billions in recovery and hence accountability for investors. With pride I can say that Sean Coffey would need no on-the-job training as Attorney General, for he is one of our nation's most accomplished lawyers. But what makes me excited to endorse Sean Coffey is his commitment to restore trust in government by fighting for comprehensive reform of our state government. We have a consensus among reform groups on how to end Albany's dysfunction. In Sean Coffey we have an AG candidate uniquely and fully committed to implementing that  agenda.”

Schneiderman Pledges To Stand Up For Average NYers As AG
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

AG CONTENDER SCHNEIDERMAN OFFERS HIS SUPPORT FOR HANDGUN MICRO STAMPING, IAN'S LAW AS EXAMPLES OF HIS LEADERSHIP STYLE IN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

What can we do to stem the tide of gun violence in the wake of the recent Main Street Massacre at the City Grill? Is there anything average people can do to end HMO abuses while safeguarding the rights of policy holders?

NYS Senator and Attorney General candidate Eric Schneiderman insisted that something CAN be done, while pointing to his own record of trying and sometimes succeeding in doing so in a recent exclusive interview with NewWNYPolitics and NiagaraFallsPolitics.

"You want to do something to stop gun violence," he rhetorically asks. "One thing that we could do that would work is to mandate the microstamping of guns. If we could pass a law that would mandate that all guns sold in the State of New York have such an imprint, then whenever there was a shooting, we could look at the shell casings and we'd know immediately where the gun came from and could then easily find out who owned the gun at the time of the shooting. We missed passing an imprinting bill in the Senate by only two votes. But, I'm going to keep fighting for it, no matter what special interests I have to take on."

"One thing that's true about me is that I never walk away from a fight and I won't back down if I believe I'm fighting for what's right," the Senator continues. "I'll always stand up for justice for  average New Yorker. You can count on that because I've done so throughout my career."

Yet another example of the Senator's willingness to take on powerful interests in the name of right is his successful battle to pass Ian's Law in Albany.

Domagalski Will Come In 3rd...Deputy Mayor Fontana?...Calvo-Torres Birthday Bash
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

AS GALLIVAN, DIPIETRO VIE FOR GOP NOMINATION, DOMAGALSKI PULLS  UP REAR...CASEY DANGLES DEPUTY MAYOR SLOT IN FRONT OF LOVEJOY COUNCILMAN...CALVO-TORRES: "DOING IT FOR OUR YOUNG PEOPLE" AND JUDICIAL DIVERSITY

Several of the highly informed observers with whom we frequently speak are now predicting that former Erie County Republican Chairman Jim Domagalski may actually come in third in his current quest for the Republican nomination for the NYS Senate seat held for over thirty years by Dale Volker.

Meanwhile, the Brown Administration continues to dangle the possibility of a Deputy Mayor's appointment over the head of Lovejoy District Council Member Rich Fontana while, last Thursday, a number of notables heard Judge Betty Calvo-Torres explain the reasons behind her current NYS Supreme Court bid.

Getting back to Domagalski, our sources have been literally shocked by the predominatly negative reaction to his campaign for the state senate seat that's been seen on the part of a wide spectrum of Republcians.

"Number one, this isn't the year to be a former party boss running for the state senate," says one. "People are sick and tired of politics right now and party bosses are just not very popular with Republican voters. Then there's the way he treated Senator Volker, openly campaigning for the seat of this 35 year veteran before he had the chance to withdraw gracefully and doing it while he was county chairman.  'You just don't do things like that,' one after another Republican will tell you. It's just not the way Republican leaders act toward someone like Dale, who went out of his way to help everyone, both Democrats and Republicans for so many years."

Paladino Will Beat Lazio, But Not Andrew...Barron Makes Ballot
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

BIG MO CLEARLY WITH CARL AS GOP GUB PRIMARY NEARS...COULD FREEDOM PARTY MAKE ANDREW NERVOUS ON NOV. 2 OR WILL PALADINO SAVE HIM..WILL CARL HELP MCLEOD?...JIMENEZ COMING TO BUFFALO FOR PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE

Forget about all those polls that show Buffalo developer Carl Paladino X number of points behind former Long Island Congressman Rick Lazio in the Sept. 14 GOP gubernatorial primary!...Our state-wide sources are telling us that all the momentum is with Carl and that he will beat Rick like a bass drum on primary night.

"Lazio is lackluter, wishy washy candidtate who isn't turning on anyone while Carl is clearly  heating up the Republican base with all his talk about being "mad as hell,." one of our sources explains.  "Besides that, Rick doesn't have any money. After spending eight years on Wall Street, Lazio thought he'd be able to raise some bucks as their candidate for governor, but it hasn't worked because no one thinks he can win."

"In a low turnout primary, it will be the "Mad As Hell" crowd who will be motivated to show up at the polls and the result will be that Carl will win," our guy continues. "However, the general election will likely be a different story, because #1, Paladino will not do well enough in New York City, which is dominated by the minority vote and #2 the "Mad As Hell" thing can only take you so far. Most voters state-wide don't really want a A Governor who is spitting mad all the time when it comes right down to it. So there's a ceiling on his potential vote, which will be evident  to one and all on Nov. 2."

Still, there is no doubt that the Paladino campaign will have an impact, both locally and around the state.

Hernandez To Evans: Leave Or I'll Declare Seat Vacant On Sept. 8
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

HAVING MOVED TO MARYLAND, HOW COULD EVANS THINK SHE COULD HOLD ON TO HER BUFFALO SCHOOL SEAT?...HERNANDEZ, RODRIGUEZ OTHERS WONDER

Buffalo School Board President Ralph Hernandez told NewWNYPolitics on Thursday evening that he will "declare her seat vacant" unless embattled school board member Vivian Evans resigns of her own accord.

"Vivian Evans now lives in the State of Maryland," President Hernandez points out. "She has a full time job in Maryland. So there really isn't any way she could continue to perform her duties as a school board member here in Buffalo. She is the chairperson of the Student Achievement Committee, which means that she has to be here every week. There is no way should could hold on to her job in Maryland and still carry out those responsibilities here. So I willl declare her seat vacant at our next meeting on Sept. 8 if she doesn't take care of the situation herself."

Among those agreeing with this position is WNY Latino community leader Cas Rodriguez.

"Being a Buffalo School Board member is a part time job but a full time commitment," Rodriguez declares. "She owes it to the children to either be here to do the job she was elected to do or resign."

Kozub: "State Must Live Within Its Means"
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

ASSEMBLY CANDIDATE DAN KOZUB BELIEVES MEDICAID CHANGES KEY TO FISCAL REFORM IN ALBANY

What will be Dan Kozub's first objective in Albany if he's elected to the NYS Assembly next Nov. 2?

"I want to go down there to work toward reducing the size of state government and cutting spending so that the State of New York starts living within its means again," Kozub replies. "We can't go on driving a Lamberdini around when all we can pay for is a Ford. Probably the first area we should look at is our medicaid program, which is the most expensive in the nation."

Legislator Kozub believes the Empire State should have its sights set on creating a robust economy for its hard working citizens, not making its medicaid program ever more elaborate.

"We should be looking to creating jobs here in New York," he declares. "We should be working on economic development so that people are coming to this state for employment, not because we have the most generous medicaid system around."

Kozub: Let's Get Moving On Waterfront Development
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

KOZUB ASKS FOR MOVEMENT ON CANAL SIDE DEVELOPMENT

Erie County Legislator Daniel M. Kozub, whose district encompasses Buffalo’s Inner Harbor and Outer Harbor neighborhoods, including the emerging Canal Side project, has asked the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation and Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority to expedite their development plans in light of recent actions concerning both Bass Pro and HSBC Bank.

In separate letters to Jordan Levy, Chair of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation, and Henry Sloma, Chair of the NFTA, Kozub asks for action and continued progress.

"At this time, I feel that revisiting the adopted and approved 2004 Master Plan, and issuing request for proposals from interested developers and stakeholders would result in investment in this emerging neighborhood. Serious consideration of the reuse of the DL&W Terminal, and other NFTA properties, should be included in future development plans as well. Creative uses of the public subsidies that were to be used for the Bass Pro project could be invested in assisting local and national business and retailers who might locate here," said Kozub.

A Purpose To Build Self Esteem Among Young Hispanics: The Puerto Rican Day Parade
Written by Glenn Gramigna, Editor

REMEMBERING THE HEROES AND HERITAGE OF WNY LATINOS...THE PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE UNDER PRESIDENT CHARLEY TORRES

How did the Buffalo Puerto Rican Day Parade begin? It began one day some eight years ago when an article appeared in a major newspaper which had Latino youth in Buffalo registering some of the lowest levels of educational achievement in the nation.

"After that, some people got together and decided to get the parade going as a way of building self esteem among our young people," recalls current Puerto Rican Day Parade President Charley Torres. "A few years later, we were having a problem getting sponsors...
